This oil painting on canvas presents a project for the new facade of Santa Maria del Fiore, created by Vito Bartolini and sent to the Opera of Santa Maria del Fiore in 1884 by the architect's father, in memory of his son following his untimely death. In his solution for the facade, Bartolini drew inspiration from the one designed several decades earlier by Niccolò Matas, especially for the idea of the pointed arches framing the portals. For these, on the other hand, characterised by vertical momentum, the architect was inspired by the 14th-century side doors of this same Cathedral. The front is decorated with sculptures inspired by those of the bell tower, and mosaics above the three portals, including the central one depicting the coronation of Mary among saints.
