Openings at the Cathedral, Bell Tower and Terraces, July-August 2020
From July 10th our opening offer to our monuments expands! In addition to Saturdays, Sundays and Mondays, it is also possible to book every Friday the climb to Brunelleschi's Dome and the exclusive visit to the Cathedral Terraces! We remind you that every Saturday, Sunday and Monday the Cathedral, Giotto's Bell Tower, the Baptistery and the Museum Cathedral are also available. Besides, from August the visit to the Terraces, the Bell Tower and the Dome will be available every day of the week!
The visit to the Dome of Santa Maria del Fiore is a unique experience for those who visit the city of Florence "Cradle of the Renaissance": this takes place along the ancient staircase that crosses the wall structures of the presbytery and the drum and then ascends between the two overlapping domes. The tour is enriched by a breathtaking view of the interior of the Cathedral, directly under the large internal fresco of the Last Judgment, and ends with the landing on the top of the marble lantern, from which you can enjoy the best panoramic view over the city of Florence from its highest point.
The tour of the Cathedral Terraces allows access to one of the most magical places in the entire complex, accompanied by our specialized guides. Going up to about 30 meters from the ground you will walk from the outside perimeter of the Cathedral in the areas above the side aisles and the facade, and from here you will be able to admire Florence at 360 degrees from a unique perspective, as well as appreciate up close the great monuments that surround the body of the Cathedral: the Baptistery, Giotto's Bell Tower and the Dome. The visit also includes a passage on the inside of the building from the balcony of the counter-facade to marvel from above at the beautiful geometric design of the floor with marble inlays and the architectural ensemble of the arches and pillars. The visit ends in one of the so called ‘Death Tribunes’ around the drum invented and built by Brunelleschi for supportive purposes. Here are displayed some of the original ancient machines and tools used for the construction and maintenance of the Dome.
The visit to Giotto's Bell Tower allows you to enjoy from inside one of the most beautiful and largest bell towers in the world, designed by the Italian 14th-century genius Giotto, named after him. Its high stone staircase offers numerous views through slits, windows and two large terraces open on all four sides, which allow you to enjoy a wider panorama of the city of Florence and the surrounding monuments: you can admire the Baptistery, the south side of the Cathedral and the large Brunelleschi Dome up close.
We remind you that visits require mandatory reservations, they are organized in slots for contingent groups of visitors and take place in absolute safety in compliance with current sanitary regulations.
