- Cofanetto Reliquiario rivestito di pietre dure
Reliquary casket in silver, partly gilded, with semi-precious stones, by a Tuscan artist close to Verrocchio, in the third quarter of the 15th century and and coming from the Baptistery of St John. The reliquary is a parallelepiped-shaped case with lid; this type of reliquary is called "urn" or "casket-shaped". The reliquary is encrusted with a pattern of semi-precious stone tiles; a technique Florence specialized in during the Renaissance. Its natural gems with their variegated colors, create chromatic effects of particular beauty. The prototype of this reliquary is the sarcophagus of the tomb of Piero and Giovanni de 'Medici, by Verrocchio in the basilica of Saint Lawrence, in Florence.
