- Profeta o Apostolo dalla finestra nord-ovest della tribuna della Croce
The marble sculpture represents a Prophet and is the work of a Florentine artist (Donatello?) from the first half of the 15th century. In this sculpture, placed up to 1968 above the north-west window of the tribune of the Cross of the Duomo, one of the prophets that the young Donatello sculpted around 1406 for the Porta della Mandorla should perhaps be identified. Following some changes to the original project, the work remained in the deposit of the Opera del Duomo and was placed in the first half of the fifteenth century. The recent restoration has highlighted the remarkable quality of the modeling and the expressive power of the face, very close to other works by Donatello, such as Orsanmichele's San Marco. Devoid of particular distinguishing marks, the prophet appears pensive and bearded, like an elder full of wisdom; he holds with both hands the scroll, alluding to the Holy Scriptures.
