The Opera di Santa Maria del Fiore promotes, organises and sponsors initiatives of a cultural nature such as concerts and other musical events, conferences, study seminars, exhibitions, and traditional folkloric events, and special openings of the monuments in its care to mark particular occasions.
Some of these initiatives have become such regular occurrences that they are now permanent fixtures in Florence's cultural calendar. One of the most important events is the O flos colende festival of sacred music first staged in 1997 and now held yearly, invariably proving extremely popular.
These recurrent events have always been accompanied by other cultural initiatives ranging from events of the greatest international importance to initiatives aimed at a broader audience, frequently reviving ancient traditions, alongside more academic and scholarly occasions designed to promote the furtherance of knowledge and research. The Opera promotes a broad, multi-faceted cultural programme designed to meet a wide range of requirements and interests for local residents and visitors alike.
