International Museum Day is celebrated on Sunday May 18, organized by ICOM and patronized by UNESCO. It is a day of reflection to remember and make society aware of the importance of the role of museums. This year's theme will mainly explore "The future of museums in rapidly changing communities", focusing on how museums can orient themselves and actively contribute to a global society that is experiencing profound social, technological and environmental changes.
Every year, in conjunction with the International Day, the European Night of Museums is celebrated - on Saturday 17 May -, in which the public is welcomed free of charge during the night. The Museo dell'Opera del Duomo is also participating in the initiative this year with free opening from 9:00 pm, with last admission at 11:30 pm, and closing at midnight.
N.B. No tickets or reservations will be required to access during the night time slot (9:00 pm - 11:30 pm).
