La Piazza, the man, the photographer. Pictures by Antonio Biagiotti.
Photo exhibition curated by Vincenzo Circosta and Giuseppe Giari
From 6 April to 4 June 2023, at the Bookshop "Brunelleschi Library" of the Opera di Santa Maria del Fiore, the photographic exhibition La Piazza, the man, the photographer. Pictures by Antonio Biagiotti will be visible.
The exhibition, organized by the Opera di Santa Maria del Fiore and curated by Vincenzo Circosta and Giuseppe Giari, presents a selection of 26 black and white photographic images on the cathedral of Florence and its monuments. The images on display are part of a large photographic project that Biagiotti started in 2018.
Antonio Biagiotti shoots, develops and prints in the traditional way. Digital never becomes part of the creative and production process, so much so that this way of doing photography coincides with his main stylistic signature. In this series of images, the man places himself behind the optical bench, isolates himself by placing the blackout sheet over his head, exactly as the pioneers of photographic art did, and, finally, snaps, to give a new reading of the timeless beauty of the Piazza and the Florentine cathedral. The successive phases of development and printing, considered as integral parts of the expressive choices, complete the process that leads to the images that we see on display. The 'limits' of the traditional photographic technique are converted into new creative potential, anchored to the extraordinary legacy of the past and projected into a suspended future.
Antonio Biagiotti combines his commitment as a photographer, with exhibitions in Italy and Asia, with that of popularizing analogue photography, through courses, seminars and workshops.
