Lastra tombale di ser Francesco Neri Ubaldi e figli

Floor tomb slab in white marble, rectangular, found during the excavations of the ancient basilica of Santa Reparata (1965-1973) and dated to the end of the 14th century. The slab has a shield carved in the center with the coat of arms of the Ubaldi family (with the head of a deer), surrounded by a ring with foliate motifs, then by a crown of trefoils and, finally, by a circular inscription in Gothic characters that identifies the tomb belongs to Francesco di Neri Ubaldi and his descendants. The coat of arms and the family name refer to the more famous Ubaldini family, while according to scholars the identification of Francesco di Neri Ubaldi reported in the inscription with the sculptor of the same name active on the construction site of the cathedral in the second half of the 14th century is to be excluded and it would be a mere coincidence.
