Annual report
The Annual Report is the tool by means of which the Opera di Santa Maria del Fiore annually recognizes its accountability towards all interested parties. The intention, which we hope has been fulfilled, is to assume a specific responsibility in terms of reporting on the modalities of management of the entrusted heritage, in accordance with the principles of transparency and guarantee of legitimacy of our action. It is a summary description of how the Fabbriceria di Santa Maria del Fiore has pursued its main purpose, that is, “the protection, promotion and valorization, in religious, civil, cultural and historical functions, of the Cathedral of S. Maria del Fiore, and all its other monuments and buildings”. On the one hand, there is the tourist life, demonstrated by the attraction that our monuments have exerted on visitors. From the Brunelleschi Dome to the Baptistery of San Giovanni, passing through Giotto's Bell Tower and the Crypt of Santa Reparata, to the Museum, the Monumental Complex of the Opera del Duomo which is undoubtedly the symbol of the city in the imaginary of those going to Florence.
This is accompanied by attention to the Florentines, for whom the Opera has created a wide range of cultural events, mainly of a musical nature within the Baptistery, the Cathedral and the Museum, and the usual traditional events. At the same time, the Opera exists as an institution in the city, dedicated by law and statute to the conservation and restoration of the assets it owns. This is evidenced by the numerous actions undertaken on the monuments, the incessant activity of our Restoration Workshop and the maintenance of the non-religious buildings on the Piazza del Duomo. And finally, the Opera is the custodian of the places dedicated to the religious function, acting in accordance with the Metropolitan Chapter to welcome the faithful and facilitate the optimal performance of the liturgies. In all of this, there are many outcomes to consider:
- The management of cultural heritage, both from a monumental-artistic and real estate standpoint.
- The maintenance and development of the historical and photographic archive.
- The visitors and the monuments visited.
- The enhancement and promotion of worship and culture.
- The increasing attention to communication, press and relations with the world.
- The numbers of the economic-financial balance.
