Slab for a burial, once in the floor of the basilica of Santa Reparata, in white, black and red marble and sandstone, sculpted and inlaid. The Latin inscription, inscribed in Gothic characters along the black frame, reports that the tomb was that of Niccolò Squarcialupi, son of Ciupo and a Knight of the Order of the Hospital of Saint John of Jerusalem, who died in May 1313. On the centre panel of the slab, we see the coat of arms of the order – a shield with white cross on a red field – and two rondels in white marble, showing the heraldic arms of the Squarcialupi family: a wolf over six spheres.
