Listen now to the first episode of The Pazzi conspiracy. Bloody Renaissance in Medici Florence the podcast series we produced in collaboration with Roger Laboratorio Narrativo!
The compelling story of the Pazzi Conspiracy will be retraced by an original podcast series, in Italian and English, created by the Opera di Santa Maria del Fiore with Roger Laboratorio Narrativo, entitled: “The Pazzi conspiracy. Blood Renaissance in Medici Florence" listenable on the Spotify, Apple podcast and Google podcast platforms and in a special Podcast section of the Opera website: https://duomo.firenze.it/en/823/podcast
The Pazzi conspiracy will be narrated by one of the key figures of the historical event, Giovanni da Montesecco, whose Confession, written on May 4, 1478, shortly before being sentenced to death, remains one of the privileged sources for knowing the preparatory phases for the conspiracy.
The conspiracy took place in the choir of the Cathedral of Florence, under Brunelleschi's dome, during the mass of April 26, 1478. Two assassins killed Giuliano de' Medici, and seriously injured his brother Lorenzo "the Magnificent ”. The conspiracy, led by Jacopo and Francesco dei Pazzi, was orchestrated by a group of leading figures in Italy at the time, including the Archbishop of Pisa Francesco Salviati, Girolamo Riario and his uncle Pope Sixtus IV. The failure of the conspiracy, with the failed assassination of Lorenzo and therefore the survival of his powerful family, and the popular uprising against the conspirators themselves, resulted in a terrible bloodshed, with lynchings, summary executions and sentences and death.
A terrible event that cast a shadow over the historical and geographical heart of the Renaissance.
