Il Museo del Duomo e il Bel San Giovanni
The visit starts from the Opera del Duomo Museum, where you can admire over 750 artworks that for centuries have decorated the Monuments of Piazza del Duomo: a great journey through 725 years of history. It is the greatest concentration of Florentine sculpture in the world. Medieval and Renaissance statues and reliefs in marble, bronze and silver by the greatest artists of the time are here displayed. From Arnolfo to Donatello, from Ghiberti to Michelangelo. These masterpieces, in most cases, were created for the exteriors and interiors of the ecclesiastical structures you still see today stand in front of the Museum: the Baptistery of San Giovanni, the Cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore and Giotto's Bell Tower.
Only after visiting the Museum you can continue your visit to the Baptistery of San Giovanni, which is located in front of the Cathedral and is one of the oldest churches in Florence.
The Baptistery is an octagonal building covered by a vault and coated with white and green marble slabs. Inside, the eight-segment vault is characterized by its splendid 1039 square meters of mosaic. From the outside, the huge pyramidal roof stands out.
From August 6th the digital Covid health certificate, or Green Pass, is mandatory to visit our monuments.
